David Dodge, VP of Business & Code Development at McKEON, is an International Code Council certified instructor under the ICC sponsored Preferred Provider Program (PPP).  On November 9th David conducted two seminars at the 2021 OBOA/ODPCA Joint Conference. Attendees benefitted from his thirty years of experience participating in the national code development hearings, as well as serving on local, regional, and national code development committees.

The first seminar “Atrium Design Concepts” began at 8:00 AM followed by “Fire Separation Concepts” at 10:00 AM. Using professionally designed Keynote presentation slides Mr. Dodge expounded on the challenges design teams face complying with the model building codes. These might range from designing vertical spaces and atriums to providing fire-rated separation using the five walls of the IBC throughout all structures. He also discussed the myths and facts behind the acceptance and use of smoke and fire fabric curtain assemblies.

This event was the 30th annual joint conference of the Ohio Building Official Association (OBOA) and the Ohio Design Professionals Code Analysts (ODPCA) organizations. A popular, highly attended conference, it was held at the Embassy Suites in downtown Dublin, Ohio. The central location draws building officials, plans examiners, inspectors, and a few architects from the ICC Mid-West Region. The conference offered participants two and a half days of companion events, intense code education classes, vendor exhibits, and evening social gatherings including an awards banquet. McKEON is honored to have been a part of this valuable event.
