In recent testing the McKEON SafeSpace™ 500 achieved the highest Design Pressure in the industry for Tornado and Hurricane Resistant Rolling Steel Doors

The exterior envelope of a storm shelter plays a vital role in the protection of building occupants during a tornado or hurricane event. The McKEON SafeSpace™ 500 is a complying rolling steel shutter that is applied to the interior of the shelter where an opening penetrates the exterior protective envelope.

The shelter itself can be open to the exterior of the building (as shown above), or contained entirely within the structure (as shown below).

As calculated by professional engineers, each shelter structure must withstand differing design pressures at various locations around the building. It is imperative that shutters are capable of maximum required design pressure loads.

The McKEON SS500 technology is now able to protect storm shelter structures at maximum design pressures. See for yourself – download the listing report here or visit our Regulatory Approvals page.
