COAA invited David Dodge to open their annual conference.

On Monday, April 29th Mr. David Dodge, VP of Business & Code Development at McKEON, opened the COAA 2024 Annual Conference with a 3-hour seminar titled Fire Door Systems, A Guide to Code Compliance. Attendees came from various jurisdictions throughout Southern Alabama for a week of professional training at the Orange Beach Wharf Event Center.

David focused on fundamental principles of egress, fire safety and passive fire protection systems. He also addressed recent code changes in the IBC that affect the use of Smoke & Fire Rated Curtain assemblies as opening protectives in building structures.

Brian Shows of Tull Brothers, Inc., one of McKEON’s valued distributor firms, hosted a table in the conference exhibit hall for the week. Mr. Shows worked behind the scenes to coordinate both Tull Brothers’ and McKEON’s involvement in the conference. Prior to David’s presentation, Brian provided each participant with a copy of the McKEON 130-page document, “Fire Door Systems, A Guide to Code Compliance.”  Throughout the presentation and the weeklong event this publication – a compilation of case studies and code commentary – was available to all conference attendees.  Download your own copy here!

Additional topics covered during the conference by other speakers and presenters ranged from industry updates to building code awareness. Great food and great surroundings added up to an engaging learning experience for all!
