The article written by Construction Business Review highlights McKEON’s history and growth as a company — transitioning from a regional overhead door company to a trusted leader in the fire door industry. As McKEON approaches its 75th anniversary Andrew C. Lambridis, Executive Vice President & COO explains, “Our innovation-driven wide span opening protective door systems, coupled with our focus on aesthetics and life safety is what makes us a leader in fire and smoke protection door technology.”

McKEON’s emphasis on providing architects and design professionals with innovative solutions to common building code requirements led to advancements in the product line. Andrew C. Lambridis stated, “We recognized the need for wide span opening protective systems that allow for building occupants to egress through these traditional type fire doors and fire shutters yet also meet or exceed the fire and life safety compliance requirements of the structure.”  From this realization came the vertically acting Safescape® T2000 and T5000 Series with built-in swing type egress doors.

As McKEON discovered additional challenges faced by the design community the product line continued to grow. Challenges with limited overhead storage led to the invention of our side acting fire door systems.  Next came the Auto-Set® H200 horizontal shutters that can reduce construction costs when utilized in atrium settings. Lastly McKEON saw the need for FEMA and wind rated door systems and began manufacturing the SafeSpace™ 500 allowing the construction of safe rooms and storm shelters to FEMA 361 (3rd Edition) and ICC 500 (2014) Standards without sacrificing natural light and multi-purpose use.

McKEON’s focus on special purpose fire door systems has provided architects and design professionals with numerous customizable, code compliant options in return allowing them to achieve their desired design!  To learn more about McKEON’s journey read the article in its entirety here.
