McKEON distributor Specified Building Products worked alongside Munters Corporation to create a code compliant space that houses a crane system.

Munters Corporation experienced a significant spike in growth requiring them to add a new crane system to their manufacturing facility in Amesbury, MA. The design of the crane system required an existing wall in the facility to be removed and replaced with a wide-span opening protective. This large opening allows the crane to easily travel from inside to outside of the building while loading products onto trucks.

So that the crane could travel through the opening properly, a wider opening was required above the rails and a less wide opening below. Munters Corporation realized this was not an off-the-shelf option and reached out to SBP for help. In addition to needing a custom wide-span opening protective, they also needed a partner who could take the lead on the demolition and reconstruction of the new opening ensuring it was seamlessly designed around the one-of-a-kind door.

Specified Building Products accepted the challenge and were hired to coordinate the design, demolition, and reconstruction of the new opening. The team at SBP worked closely with the McKEON Engineering Department to supply an innovative product that would resolve Munter’s unique challenges.

CW3000-Craneway-Service-Door

McKEON proposed the CW-3000 Craneway Service Door. The bottom part of the custom rolling steel door, designed with a floating bottom bar, is 30 feet wide, closing within the guides below the crane rails. The upper portion simultaneously descends to close off the 35-foot-wide space above the rails. Thus, the crane rails remain clear and the opening is protected.

The client and crane company, duly impressed and eager to proceed with this solution, quickly approved Specified Building Product’s proposal! The project is currently in the middle of the installation phase. We look forward to sharing more as it progresses — stay tuned for updates.
