Northstar Equipment, led by Steve Harrington, worked alongside BWBR and Greenfire Management Services on the new Waukesha City Hall in Waukesha, WI.

The new City Hall, spanning 63,000 gross sq. ft., was built on the same site as the former building. The facility houses multiple departments, council chambers with TV broadcast service, municipal court, an emergency operations center, a data center, a public service counter, and a skywalk connection to an existing parking garage.

The unique design called for an interior exit stairway to be open and common with a 3-story atrium space on three levels. Thanks to the diverse McKEON product line the design team executed their vision by incorporating three different technologies. The Auto-Set® H200, Auto-Set® Model S4000, and Auto-Set® Model FSFD were installed to comply with vertical opening separation requirements. These opening protectives deploy only when activated by the building alarm system. Otherwise, open and spacious design both vertically and horizontally allows building occupants and city hall visitors to enjoy views of the outside from within the commercial structure while working or simply walking through.

An added bonus for the owner was the security style, wide-span opening protectives that separate service counters and workspaces from the public areas during off-hours.

In this case, two vertical acting SD3000s and the side acting SC3000D were installed, ensuring protection without sacrificing the design team’s vision. Whether vertical-, side- or horizontal-acting, McKEON has a security or fire door to fit virtually any opening, no matter how large!
